Assignment 27A – Reading Reflection # 3

Assignment 27A – Reading Reflection # 3
o     What was the general theme or argument of the book?
o     The general theme of the book was about the beliefs that people have, their mindsets and the underlying psychology behind these beliefs and mindsets. For example, in the book the author mentions different mindsets that people have like: “the view you adopt for yourself”, “the fixed mindset” and the “growth mindset”. The author mentions how these mindsets can change your psychology and radically change your life.
o     How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
o     From the assignments and lectures in this class, I think that one of the key takeaways from them was that you need to have a certain mindset when trying to make it in the world of entrepreneurship. This book enhanced what I learned in the class because it not only talked about the mindsets that successful people have, it also went in depth about the psychology behind these mindsets and how you can be successful in life by utilizing these mindsets.  The book showed me how certain mindsets alter the way people try to achieve their goals in life and how they are impacted by failure.
o     If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
o     In the book there is a section where they use questions to help you determine what mindset you have. They have you read four statements and whether you agree or disagree with the statements determine what mindset you have. I would have everyone in the class respond to the statements and as a class we would use them to figure out what mindset you have.
o     What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
o     My biggest surprise from the book was what I got out of it. I think by far this book had the biggest impact on me personally out of all the books I read this semester. I think the author did a great job connecting with the audience and showing me the various mindsets that people have and how they can affect my life. from this book I learned what kind of mindset I have and how I can utilize it to have a positive affect on my life to learn from my mistakes and overall be successful in my life.

  1. Hi John,
I enjoyed reading your summarization of the book you read. It would have been more helpful if you included the name of the book but regardless, I still obtained great information. I think mindset and outlook are extremely important parts of being a successful entrepreneur. Having the right mindset can be the deciding factor in an entrepreneur's success. Like you said, being mindful of your mindset is essential when it comes to overcoming problems and succeeding.

  2. John, question right off the bat: what book did you read? It sounds like a pretty interesting one and I'd love to know the title. Another question: what mindset type are you? I would've loved to hear more details about your personal connection to the book and the specific details within the book, but I guess the first is personal and the second can be accomplished by reading the book itself!
