Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

6A – Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

·         Economic trend: Florida consumer confidence holds steady in January
o   I believe that this suggests an opportunity exists because the facts mentioned in the article are good for business prospects. The research done by the University of Florida proves that consumer confidence has remained strong and hasn’t dropped since last month and Florida unemployment is at an all time low.
o   The prototypical customers are consumers in Florida because they are optimistic about the economy and their personal financial situation. I think that exploiting this opportunity would not be too difficult because if consumer confidence is up and unemployment is down that would certainly help in brining an opportunity to the market.
o   I think I saw this opportunity because there is a lot of conflict going on in the world right now, so I was not expecting consumer confidence to be high and I was certainly not expecting unemployment in Florida to be so low.
·         Economic trend: U.S. Economy Heads Into 2020 With Steady Growth
o   I believe that this suggests an opportunity exists because the facts mentioned in this article show that there has been a boost in trade and consumer spending in the last quarter. This suggests an opportunity might exist because a good economy is always good for business.
o   The prototypical customers are American consumers and people in any industry involved in trade. I think that this will not be too difficult to exploit because consumer spending if up, so that means it will be easier to find an opportunity in a particular market.
o   I think I saw this opportunity because I am interested in the economy on a global scale and the way that globalization affects businesses. I was surprised that consumer spending was up and that there was a boost in trade.
·         Regulatory changes: Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act
o   I think this opportunity exists because this bill, if passed, would provide more regulation of marijuana products. This regulation and any other proposed regulation for marijuana is bound to come up as marijuana is becoming legal in more places.
o   The prototypical customer is those who are involved in the selling of marijuana or marijuana related products.
o   I think it would be easy to exploit because marijuana has become more popular over the years, and there is a definite need for the product and there are already people in this market.
o   I saw this opportunity because I’ve always been curious about what will happen with marijuana as it becomes legal in more places and becomes more popular.
·         Regulatory changes: Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2019
o   I think that there is an opportunity here because the bill has passed the house and as gun related deaths are becoming more frequent, I think people want solutions. It is something that is absolutely necessary.
o   The prototypical customer are people want more to be done in regard to gun control and background checks for owning firearms.
o   I think it might be somewhat easy to exploit, getting the bill passed might be difficult, but I know a lot of people want improved background checks.

o   I saw this opportunity because I’ve always been interested in things related to gun control and I think it is an important issue that needs to be addressed.

  1. Hey JC, I did some digging into your articles and really like the idea of the enhances background checks. I do think that this will take more funding and availability from voters but it wouldn't be a bad idea to have more secure voting as it is such a huge problem in these days. I also liked your discussion on the marijuana act. I think that this could come to light in the near future and its important to start learning about all of the things we could do now.

  2. Hey JC,

The enhanced background checks act of 2019 is the a major policy that is being put in place and I believe that is the first step we have taken to press down on gun laws. There are 400 million guns out in the United States and currently there are 330 million people in America. It is ignorant to truly believe that the government is capable of removing all guns away and even so, it still would not change much around. After reviewing a few studies on Britain, knowing that the citizens are not allowed to own weapons, stats show that the people are using knifes and cars and ropes to murder people and therefore if we are just limiting the gun shootings that are happening, then it is effective but it will not lower death rates.

  3. Hi JC,
I agree that there are many opportunities in the marijuana business that is constantly growing. I think new regulations on these products are necessary for it to become legalized and controlled from a business aspect. Also, the background checks are very important in preventing the wrong people from getting guns. I think this is essential for gun control and safety in the U.S.

  4. Hi JC,
I definitely think that the marijuana business is one of the most popular opportunity markets right now. My home town is Missouri and they recently legalized marijuana in Illinois, and I know there are many people making the drive just so they are able to legally by it. With the increasing popularity, creating a dispensary is a newly legalized state is an easy way to make a good profit. I also agree that it a good opportunity that the US economy is heading into 2020 at a steady pace, however I think this can change in a second. We can already see the effects of things such as the coronavirus outbreak, so I think it is important for us to be extra cautious.
