My Entrepreneurship Story
When I read
the prompt for this assignment about a time I had been exposed to entrepreneurship
in my life, the first thing that came to mind was the time that me and my friend
in high school tried to start a YouTube channel. For the most part we just
wanted to do it because we thought it would be fun, but part of us was hoping
we could make a lot of money out of it. We were a bit naïve and we had high
hopes that we would be the next [insert famous youtuber of the early 2010s here].
For our YouTube channel we wanted to do a bit of everything: video game
commentary, movie reviews, news, entertainment, and anything else that
interested us. In principal, we thought there was no way we wouldn’t be
successful because we were covering so much ground as far as content goes. In
practice, we ended up losing the motivation to work on the YouTube channel
because we tried to do so many things at once and it just ended up being a bit
of a chore. We still had fun making the videos and it’s an experience that me
and my friend won’t soon forget.
I mainly
signed up for this class because it was required, but I also thought It would
be a fascinating class. I don’t think ill ever be an entrepreneur, but you
never know. If anything I think that learning how to think like an entrepreneur
will be beneficial no matter what I decide to do with my life.

I think nearly every person in the past few years has wanted to start making videos and become "YouTube famous." I know I definitely, at multiple times, have wanted to do so. I posted one video and then called it quits. :)- So, congrats to you and your friend on getting further then most.
ReplyDeleteRegarding your approach, I think that is where a lot of beginner YouTubers mess up; they don't specialize. And, as you mentioned, trying to make videos on everything you're passionate about at the exact same time can be quite difficult and discouraging when you realize it isn't always possible. There may be an entrepreneurial/business lesson in that: pick one thing you enjoy that consumers are willing to spend their time/money on, then run with that one thing. If, after a significant period of time (only you can be the judge of that), whatever you chose is successful and you still enjoy it, then continue. If not, reevaluate the situation, your interests, and the market. Then, determine if it's worth pushing through or if you should specialize in something else.
It is very funny to hear someone else attempt YouTube videos because I myself also have tried to make YouTube videos and my comment about it is that it is not hard, it just takes time and effort and when you are living your day to day life and you have to figure out your daily problems and then focus on YouTube problems and you will most likely lose the motivation. In regards of the class itself, I also took the class because it was required but so far, this will be my advice to you. Everyone could be an entrepreneurship. You can live your life normally and one day you can have an idea and that will be your shot to being an entrepreneur. You do not have to be the entrepreneur at all times which is why I find being one so awesome.
